Beaver North East Travellers

Ten mirrors including three visitors enjoyed a sunny day with light winds for the first round of the NE travellers, it was a shame only one north zone boat attended. In race 1 Eloise and Kayleigh Hansen (Covenham) led from the start and pulled out an impressive lead, there was a battle for second place between local boat Martin Rumsby with Linda Jackson, singlehander Tim Gatti (Yeadon), and Inge-lisa Hansen with Mathew Kiddle (Covenham). Tim and Inge-lisa broke away, with Tim covering Inge-lisa for about a lap and a half in a superb tactical race until she came through to take second. In race two Eloise was first to the windward mark followed by Martin and Tim, local singlehanders Ray Baskerville and Malcom Elwood following. Inge-lisa came though on the next beat taking three boats at the mark. The wind then died allowing Tim, Martin and Inge-lisa to catch up, as it filled in again Tim was on Eloise's transom. The final beat was going to be close at the leeward mark Tim tacked off, with Inge-lisa following her sisters, she finished less than a boat length behind them with Tim coming in third. In race 3 the wind built up, by the windward mark positions were sorted, Eloise, Inge-lisa, Tim and Martin and these were maintained to the finish.

The only thing being Tim finished third on the water but was beaten by Martin on handicap, this is because the whole fleet raced together on equal terms and not two fleets as some travellers do.

It was good to see club sailors out racing who had taken part in the Mirror winter training at the club.

Everybody enjoyed the hospitality and friendly atmosphere at the club, and had a good time.
