Notts County S.C. hosted the Mirror Midland Area Championships on the 16th/17th June and was held with an overcast sky and a northerly 2-4 force breeze. The entry of 19 boats travelled from all parts of the country and enjoyed exceedingly close racing thoughout the weekend , with 5 boats still able to win going into the last race.

Race 1 saw Niki and Christian Birrell  take the lead with Tim Gray and Simon Foskett second.These two broke clear of the rest and constantly swapped places thoughout with Niki winning on the line.Guy and Ben Wilkins were third.

The wind increased for Race 2 and Lucy MacGregor and Carly Burge started well and led round the first mark . However, they could not stop the pack behind closing up and several boats took the lead in turn.At the final mark a group of eight boats rounded and on the short beat to the finish a lot of places were won and lost. Richard Cornes and Katy Sharps had always been at the front and crossed first with Matt Burge and Chris Doe coming from behind to take second with Lucy and Carly third.

Race 3 saw another crew at the front as Stuart Bithell John Toogood led round the first mark with Tim and Simon close behind , these two broke away and finished well clear of the pack with Tim covering Stuart to take first.

Sunday started with a brisk force 3-4 and more changes at the front .Elliot Jago and Ben Arscott had not had a good day on Saturday and were determined to prove themselves with a win in Race 4. Guy and Ben had also found the competition feirce but came though to second.

Race 5 . With the title wide open and the breeze holding the fleet started with Elliot again out in front followed by Tim . In the stronger winds places changed and some minor gear failures occurred affecting the front runners.Elliot and Ben sailed well and won their second race with Stuart and John second and Richard and Katy third.

The overall result was decided on countback to break the tie for first with all results down to eleventh separated by one point or so!
