Extra Attraction!
The reason for the single race on the Monday is because the Transat (Single handed Atlantic crossing) is starting from Plymouth and should be a great spectacle, certainly an exciting time to be in Plymouth
The race will be preceded by an Events Week on the Mount Batten peninsular running from 22 May, the date the race boats and competitors arrive in Plymouth. As well as the spectacle of over 40 giant hi-tech 60 foot race boats, the Events Week will include Royal Navy displays, an arts programme as well as entertainment and hospitality events. www.thetransat.com
The boats will be kept at Elphinstone Dinghy park which is two minutes walk from the Club. The Club has full changing facilities with hot showers. The Club will be open all weekend with food available and it will also make a great spectator spot as the dinghys will be racing within the confines of Plymouth Sound. Cars can be parked in a car park close to the dinghy park and also another car park five minutes walk away. We are planning a Commodores Reception on Saturday evening, Sunday will be a free evening, Monday there will be a quiz night and auction, finishing on Tuesday with the prize giving and buffet. As you know the Single handed Trans Atlantic race starts on Monday at 14.00 hrs. I am in negotiation with the organisers to provide a spectator boat to go out and catch the start, unfortunately this will be limited to probably about 40-50 people, but it will still be a great vantage point from the Club watching them all go out. We are also giving away one Nationals T-shirt each to the first 30 entries. For any family members not wishing to watch the racing each day there are
various attractions within walking distance. The National Marine Aqarium, The Barbican & Mayflower Steps, Plymouth city centre, The Hoe, Plymouth Pavilions which has ice skating and a swimming pool, there is also a large Warner's studio within walking distance.
Class Association Trophies
(Please ensure trophies are returned in good time for 2004 Nationals, polished and engraved. If previous years winners are not engraved, please have these added as well and send the receipt to the MCA Treasurer for reimbursement)
