Directions to the Club

Finding Poole Yacht Club is easy because it is situated next door to Brittany Ferries Roll-On, Roll-Off ferry port. From any direction follow signs for Poole until you pick up the signs for the car/lorry ferry. These will bring you to 'New Quay Road' off a mini roundabout in the Hamworthy area of Poole. This is just over the lifting bridge from Poole Quay if approaching from the North and East. You turn right off 'New Quay Road' into the Poole Harbour Commissioners land (marked by a large gantry), over the level crossing and turn right at the mini roundabout. Poole Yacht Club is at the far end of this road. Drive right up to the gates and they will open automatically.

General Description of Sailing Water and Clubhouse

Racing will take place in the 'top triangle' area of Poole Harbour, bounded by Brownsea Island and the Arne Nature Reserve. The Harbour is landlocked, mainly shallow with a very small tidal range and a complex pattern of 'double' high waters. The modern clubhouse is large with lounge, bar, changing rooms, car park and magnificent views of the harbour. Hot food is available at lunchtimes and the club serves what is probably the best BLT in the world. Launching, via a wide slipway into the club's marina, is possible at all states of the tide. The championship will be taking place in conjunction with Poole Yacht Club’s Youth Regatta with two separate courses and starts for at least 5 other classes (e.g. Optimist, Cadet, Topper, 420, ). Mirrors will probably share a course with the Optimist dinghies. In the recent past the club has hosted the 420, YW Dayboat and Osprey National Championships.

The intention is to sail races back to back. Mother ships with toilet facilities will provided near to the race area.

Additional Information

Poole Yacht Club is looking forward to hosting the 2004 Youth & Junior Championships and assures sailors and their families and friends a warm welcome and enjoyable sailing. The Championship forms part of the PYC Youth and Junior Regatta.
