The Association exists to support and encourage owners of the Mirror Dinghy in the UK and throughout the World. It does this in a number of ways: -

1)      Through the organisation of events, including a National Championship, seven Regional Championships, a Youth & Junior Championship, an Inland Championship, hopefully a Single-handed Championship and a Masters Championship, plus a Camping Rally for those less interested in serious racing.

2)    By keeping careful check on proposals for changes in the Class Rules to ensure that the one-design principle is retained - essential if older boats are to remain "in Class" and keep their value.

3)    In producing a Yearbook for Members which contains details of events, Clubs where Mirrors are sailed, the Class Rules and Sailing Instructions and advice on getting a boat measured and certificated.

4)    Issuing a regular newsletter with features on Mirror sailing, race results, articles on Clubs and Mirror sailing abroad and news of changes in the Measurement Rules and Measurers. Also comments, letters and information from members and from the Committee.

5) By providing the www.ukmirrorsailing.com website for the latest news, real-time results and rankings, links to Club websites, "For Sale/Wanted" forum plus the lively "Message Board" section where members can ask questions and share views on all aspects of Mirror construction, sailing and racing.

6) Protecting the interests of owners through representing the class with external organisations such as RYA and ISAF.

7) Organising training opportunities for all abilities and ages

8) Acting as point of contact

9) Maintaining an archive of Mirror activities, publications and boats.

Many of the UK's most successful international sailors started their careers in a Mirror and the boat is now widely recognised as a top junior and youth trainer. The Mirror is one of only four junior classes to be recognised by the RYA as a Junior race training boat and the RYA, through lottery funding, run Zone Coaching Squads around the country for a total of 42 Mirrors and together with the Class Association run a National Squad for up to 18 boats. The aim is to bring on talented young sailors for future Youth International and Olympic squads.

Finally, adequate insurance is essential these days and the Association offers a choice of coverage for the benefit of Members. These schemes are provided for us by NEWTON CRUM INSURANCE with whom we have had a very long and successful partnership. These schemes are only available for UK based boats. Immediate quotations and cover are available direct from Newton Crum on 01702-710041 or through their web site at www.newtoncrum.co.uk.

Various categories of Membership are available, including Family Membership. New for 2002 is a low cost Crew Membership to give junior crews an introduction to the wider world of Mirror sailing.
