Itchenor SC - 2004 Southern Traveller

"Torrential rain and howling winds scudded across Chichester Harbour on Sunday 20th June; so it came as no surprise to see 34 brave mirrors setting out from Itchenor Sailing Club, all determined to complete 3 races and achieve a result to count for the Southern Zone Travellers. As the wind gradually rose, however, the number of boats retiring from races increased, with only 18 boats finishing the 2nd race.

By this time, with two firsts, Rob Struckett had ensured an overall win as there was one discard and he also retired from the last race, leaving only 12 boats to complete every race. The overall winner was an Itchenor boat, Robert Struckett and crew Tom Hodkinson followed closely by Josh Rumbol from Poole in 2nd, George Yeoman from Itchenor in 3rd place and William Kalderon, all from Itchenor, tied in points in 4th place. 5th went to John Clementson from Chipstead. An endurance prize went to the last boat to finish all races, Olivia Bottomly and Tots Boadle from Itchenor Sailing Club. Despite the terrible conditions, all those sailors who didn’t freeze to death thoroughly enjoyed themselves."
