Sun cream and a BBQ on the beach at Pwllheli ( yes it really was that warm!) were the order of the day for the final weekend of the Mirror North Zone Squad’s winter training programme. Thanks to the generosity of CREWSAVER every squad sailor went home with a bag of crewsaver goodies and some great prizes. Despite the earlier freezing winter weather which caused some weekends to be reorganised on different dates and at different venues, a full programme was achieved with sailing taking place on all twelve training days.

Beaver Winter Series (Round 2) 19th March 2011
We arrived to a beautiful warm sunny day, but not a lot of wind, which meant most of us, could leave our drysuits in the bottom of our sailing bags. By the time the start gun went for the first race the wind was still very light, but we could see the wind filling in. Emma & Reg Grayson reach the windward mark first and took an early lead to go onto win the race follow by Oliver White & George.
We then all enjoy Farmer Copley’s pies for our lunch. The wind continued to fill in during the lunch break with a change of course needed due to the shifting wind, race two got under way. Sarah Richards & Ed Rice-Birchall rounded the windward mark first follow by Matt & Ben Lulham-Robinson after much place changing the Lulham Robinsons brothers went onto win the race follow by Richards & Rice Birchall and the Grayson sisters came in third. Race three saw another course change due to the increasing and shifting wind. Richards & Rice Birchall took an early lead and went onto win the race, Will Hide & Emma Clayton came in second and the Lulham-Robinson in third. Thank you to Matt Grayson and his team at Beaver SC for running another fanatic event.

The day dawned bright, grey and cold on the 16 sailors rigging their boats, up in the North at Carsington Water. The usual enthusiasm was present, but possibly marred by the want of a lie in! Anyway, with boats rigged and kit in the changing room, the National Squad ambled over to the briefing hut. Ross and Alex were sitting waiting, dubious of another weekend with us rowdy crew.
