North Zone had a great weekend at South Staffs SC for their first training weekend. There was really close sailing (once the wind filled in) and a great social evening on Saturday night with a skittles alley and a take away, so everyone got to know each other. The wind stayed light and shifty all weekend, but we got in some good exercises and a few races on Sunday afternoon.
The themes were tacking, gybing and spinnaker work but we started with some fun activities that included 'Tennis ball tig' and 'round the clock' . Everyone was impressed by Jamie Whiteley's great show of stamina in eating four servings of pasta for lunch! In the fitness session on Sunday morning the helms beat the crews easily in a team game. After all the training we put it into practice with some races. Rachel (REG) and George won comfortably, with two 1sts and two 2nds. Everyone else had some good races and some not so good! Ollie and James were unlucky to hit the mark while in the lead, Hettie and Alice came through to win the last race while Tom and Jimmy were improving rapidly. April & Jamie were caught on the wrong side of some big wind shifts. In the end Chloe and Izzy came in second, and Hettie and Alice in third. A big thanks to all the people who made this weekend possible and the club for hosting the event.
