Well what a fantastic weekend we had at Carsington, perfect wind and the sun shone, what more could you ask for March! All three RYA squads joined together to get some experience with big-fleet racing.
A quick briefing in the morning was followed by as much time on the water as was possible. After a warming-up activity that tested our boat handling skills with just our squad we moved onto starts when we joined up with the South Zone Squad. After lunch all the squads came together for some big-fleet coached racing on a triangle-sausage course where the Zone squads gave the National Junior squad a run for their money! After a massively successful day we had a lovely dinner at the sailing club where all the squads bonded, including some banter over accents! The next day began with suicide runs (thanks Jimmy) and another quick briefing saw us back on the water early to make up for the time on the water we lost the weekend before. The wind dropped slightly throughout the day but the plan was similar, we practised trigger pulls separately as a squad then joined up with South Zone to do some skills under-pressure, keeping our heads out of the boat (meerkat sailing as Jimmy called it). In the afternoon all three squads raced together like the previous day but the results were taken out for our squad:
1st Chloe and Izzy
2nd Reg and George
3rd Ollie and James
Thank you to Carsington Sailing Club for hosting the weekend, the ladies in the galley, everyone who came and the coaches. Looking forward to the next weekend at Pwllheli!
