6 Mirrors from Looe, Mount's Bay and Restronguet attended the first Gul South West squad session. The weather started off with high cloud and gentle breeze from the North West, a lot less than forecast.
After the briefing the group were split into two and one group worked on follow my leader & tacking followed by mark rounding, hovering and some of the basics of flying the spinnaker. Towards the end of the morning session the wind dropped, then shifted, strengthened and it started to rain.
After lunch (thanks to the Rudd family for the cupcakes) it was time to try box starts so everyone was near the line. By this time the wind was more moderate to fresh, but there was a noticable improvement as the afternoon progressed. The session finished with two short races.
Boat | Race 1 | Race 2 | |

Thanks to James Wilkinson and Ashley Shepherd for coaching, to Brian Bowdler for driving the RIB and other parents for helping manning the radio and supporting the training, to Gul for sponsoring this winter's training and the Gul South West Travellers 2013.
Next SW squad session is next Sunday 17th February at Restronguet SC. Homework is to write out your routine for capsize recovery & bring weather forecast and tide prediction with you.
