With the forecast promising a maximum of 4 knots of wind and settled weather, the race team discussed long and hard about cancelling the event on Saturday. Only on a visit to the race area was it found that a sea breeze had developed and it was hoped it would return again for the event the next day. So with a delayed start posted late on Saturday evening and emails and texts flying around the ether late into the evening, the fleet made their way across the border to Devon.

Over 40 Mirrors took part in the four event series at Poole YC, Hill Head SC, Bosham SC; concluding this weekend with the Navigators & General Mirror Nationwide Southern Championships at Itchenor SC. The boats from the RYA National Junior Squad have used the opportunity of the southern traveller series to gain experience in different waters from the shifty and tidal waters of Poole Harbour and unusually light conditions at Hill Head on the Solent and in Chichester at Bosham. To round off Itchenor had the full range of 20 kts plus on Day One, followed by light winds and tide dominated courses on Day Two.

The Mirror fleet had a great and varied weekend’s racing for the Navigators & General Nationwide Series 3 and Southern Area Championships at Itchenor Sailing Club. 25 boats took part representing Looe SC, Hill Head SC, Poole YC, Stokes Bay, Warsash, Wembley and home Club Itchenor.
By the first start on Saturday, a steadyish breeze of around 15 knots had established from the west.

There is a great report on Abersoch Mirror week 2014 on the Yachts & Yachting website. With 47 entries from 18 clubs travelling from as far as Kent and Scotland, Abersoch Mirror Week remains a firm family favourite and, once again, the largest Mirror regatta in the UK.
Next year the South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club are hosting the UK Mirror Nationals alongside Abersoch Mirror week, on a seperate course, further offshore. So there will be no place better for Mirror sailors of all abilities in 2015 than at Abersoch from August 15th to 21st.
