Race conditions were light throughout the two races run on Day 1 of the 2011 Mirror Nationals, with the tide magnifying the effect of some of the windshifts. Hill Head sailor Nigel Thomas crewed by Milly Moss mastered the conditions most effectively to occupy the lead position overnight, with a one point advantage over Ed and Beth Grey. Two points further back in third position are Tom Cosier and Niamh O'Neill the first of the home based Restronguet boats.
Races 1 & 2 have just been completed, with all boats currently returned or returning to shore. Conditions have been very light, with a 7 -10 knot breeze, bright sunshine and an ebb tide to contend with. Further update and top ten results to follow.
Well, at the end of registration today the fleet for this years Crewsaver Mirror Nationals has grown to 78 entries with a couple of potential entrants trying to find sailing partners overnight. Can we hit an 80 boat entry!
This round was held over the first weekend of the nine day Bassweek Regatta and some crews had their first experience of racing in company with over one hundred and fifty other boats of many and varied classes and hull speeds. The Mirrors and Toppers had a joint start but were in separate fleets.
The schedule was for two races on Saturday afternoon and a further two on Sunday but lack of wind produced a significant delay before the first race and only one was sailed on the first day, on the water action being curtailed by a need to start the Commodore’s Reception for all at a reasonable time.
On the eve of the 2011 Crewsaver UK Mirror Nationals there are now 75 registered entries for the event, which is being hosted by Restronguet SC. There is still time to enter the event before racing starts on Sunday, via the Restronguet SC website www.mysailingclub.org/ and, if necessary, we have one charter boat left from the UK MCA Mirror demo fleet.
