Scillysail - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! was created by celtic warrior
We left St Mary's at 7:07am on Friday 25th July and arrived safely at Mount's Bay at 17:17pm that afternoon, we averaged around five knots and sailed in total some 50 miles. It was an incredible experience to be mid-ocean in a mirror dinghy with no land in sight in any direction. We were fortunate in crossing the two major shipping lanes and the closest we came to any large vessels was probably half a mile. The conditions were ideal, west/south/west winds of between eight and twelve knots. Sea conditions were good with helpful swell. The tidal conditions had been carefully plotted and generally were in our favour. Tony did amazingly well, at eighty two and i think that any decent sailor would appreciate how difficult this crossing actually was. Many photos were taken during the crossing and a log is to be made recording the voyage. Hopefully they will be posted soon and you will be able to appreciate seeing a mirror dinghy passing The Wolf Rock for the first time.
Our grateful thanks to those who have donated to date. To those who still wish to contribute the opportunity will remain for some time. Our total at this moment approaches £3000, help make a difference!!
