Beer SC were pleased to host, for the first time, a Mirror Area Championship. The excellent race organisation, hospitality and sailing conditions were appreciated by all who took part.
Under the experienced Race Officer, Colin Westlake, some very good courses were laid. With an offshore breeze of force 3-4 two back-to-back races were sailed on Saturday with a further two races on Sunday.
Twenty eight entries were received from far and wide proving that interest in Mirror racing is of a high standard.

Thirty-eight Starters assembled under the burgee of Pegasus Sailing Club, Uphill, Weston-Super-Mare. A preliminary visual inspection of all boats revealed a number of relatively minor out of class faults. Owners were requested to rectify as soon as possible, and it was pointed out that the winning
boat would be completely measured. There was also the possibility of protest by another competitor.
Sailed at Mount's Bay Sailing Club 21st & 22nd July. Peter Knight, writing in 2018, takes up the story:
"I remember it well. It was the year after I sold my Mirror (Fugio) and got a Firefly, age 15. Peter Jenkins sailed with me. We borrowed Nigel Parish's Mirror. It didn't have a spinaker, so we lost out a bit on the downwind legs, and on the Sunday we borrowed a spinaker and tied on some blocks through the rowlock holes to sheet it! Luckily it was blowing old boots, so it didn't matter too much."
